How To Maintain Your Home Part: II

As we’ve mentioned in our previous blog post, maintaining your home is critical. A home is probably going to be one of your most expensive and important investments. The challenges of home maintenance are real, but with the help of tradesmen across the board, it can be made effortless. However, if you cannot afford a regular handyman or any other regular visits from a tradesman, there are plenty of ways in which we can maintain our homes by ourselves.

In our previous blog, we mentioned five things to regularly check:

  • The Doorbell
  • Dead Power Outlets
  • Foundation Problems
  • Exterior Paint Jobs
  • Window And Door seals

Let’s take a look at some more ways we can maintain our homes.

Fridge Condesner Coils

One of the biggest culprits among refrigerator problems is neglected coils. Cleaning them can help you get more years out of your refrigerator.

At least once a year, make sure to vacuum the condenser coils located at the back of your fridge.

Test Smoke And Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Nearly 3 out of 5 deaths from home fires occur because of defective fire detectors. [https://www.nfpa.org/News-and-Research/Data-research-and-tools/Detection-and-Signaling/Smoke-Alarms-in-US-Home-Fires]

What’s worse is that in 2015, 393 deaths occurred in the USA due to carbon monoxide poisoning, while thousands more were sent to the emergency rooms, according to the CDC.

So yes, this is critical to both home maintainance and possibly your life. Be sure to test and dust your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors at least twice a year.

Garage Safety Testing

To avoid any damage to your vehicles, garage-stored items and possibly yourself, make sure to test your garage door regularly. You can conduct tests in various ways, but the best way would be to put it into manual mode, open it up and close it on a small item. If it doesn’t make a popping sound when it hits the item, call a professional immediately.

Clean The Oven

Ovens are no cheap investment, and it is vital to keep it clean to avoid permanent stains and an ugly look over time. When selling the house, you will want your potential buyer to feel drawn in by the basic essentials that come with a home. Having a clean, prestine oven will be of benefit to you while you live in your home and if you sell it later on.

Conclusion:

Maintaining your home will not only increase the chances of selling your property faster, but will also save you money, and perhaps your life. Make sure to conduct these maintenance routines as recommended to avoid any problems.
